Dehradun: At the Nari Shakti Vandan conference, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami described the Act as a “transformational” step

Dehradun: At a conference held in Dehradun regarding the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami called it a historic and transformative initiative toward women’s empowerment. Speaking at the event organized by the Uttarakhand State Women Commission at the Government Doon Medical College auditorium, he said that this law is an important step in giving respect, rights, and participation to the nation’s women.

The Chief Minister stated that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, the Nari Shakti Vandan Act passed in 2023 provides for 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies. He said this is not just an effort to increase representation but a major change toward ensuring effective participation of women in policymaking.

He added that women play a central role in the progress of society and the nation. Today, women are demonstrating their capabilities in every field—agriculture, entrepreneurship, politics, and social leadership. In such a scenario, providing them equal opportunities and platforms is the need of the hour.

CM Dhami also mentioned various central government schemes—Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Ujjwala Yojana, Jan Dhan Yojana, and Lakhpati Didi Yojana—stating that these initiatives have played a significant role in making women self-reliant and empowered. He also noted that the state government is continuously working toward women’s empowerment in the areas of education, employment, and self-employment.

He said that in Uttarakhand, women are being economically strengthened through self-help groups, rural livelihood missions, and women entrepreneurship schemes. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that after the proposed special session in Parliament, the Act will soon be fully implemented, giving a new direction to women’s leadership in the country.
