Dehradun District Plan Should Include Projects That Accelerate the Local Economy: DM

Dehradun: District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan has directed officials to make the district plan for the financial year 2026–27 more citizen-centric, innovative, and employment-oriented. During a review meeting of the district plan, he instructed all departments to propose projects that would strengthen Dehradun’s economy while directly benefiting the public.

The District Magistrate directed each department to include at least one innovative and sustainable project in the district plan and submit a detailed report outlining its expected outcomes. He emphasized that project selection should prioritize land availability, dispute-free implementation, and timely execution.

Highlighting the importance of completing pending and unfinished projects, he warned that delays despite adequate budget allocations would be considered serious negligence. Accountability would be fixed and action taken against responsible officials where necessary.

To promote self-employment and self-reliance, the DM instructed departments to prioritize schemes related to industry, agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries, and livelihood enhancement. Special emphasis was placed on promoting blueberry cultivation, trout fish farming, poultry farming, and sugarcane production.

He also directed the Education Department to ensure that no school in the district remains without basic facilities such as electricity, drinking water, and toilets.

The District Magistrate stated that the state government has allocated nearly ₹100 crore under the district plan for Dehradun and stressed that the impact of these funds should be visible on the ground within the current financial year.

During the meeting, it was informed that Dehradun district has been allocated ₹99.39 crore under the 2026–27 district plan. Of this, ₹15.93 crore has been earmarked for self-employment schemes and ₹36.25 crore for new and innovative projects.
