Development plans to be made using geospatial technology; mapping made mandatory for projects above ₹10 crore

Dehradun: In a major step towards making development projects in Uttarakhand more accurate, transparent, and coordinated, the government has taken an important initiative. Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan released the “PM Gati Shakti Use Case Collection 2.0” during a two-day workshop held at the Secretariat on Thursday and also launched a mobile application for departmental data collection. During the event, he directed that geospatial mapping be made mandatory for all new projects costing more than ₹10 crore.

The Chief Secretary said that geospatial technology enables scientific analysis of geographical data linked to any location, making development planning more effective. He added that in a hilly state like Uttarakhand, this technology would be extremely useful for infrastructure projects such as roads, drinking water supply, power lines, railways, buildings, and dams.

He said that through the PM Gati Shakti portal, data from various departments will be integrated, leading to better project planning, improved inter-departmental coordination, and reduction in duplication of work. He instructed that all newly approved projects must be uploaded on the portal.

He also directed the Planning Department to use the PM Gati Shakti platform in meetings of the Expenditure Finance Committee so that technical and geographical evaluation of projects can be carried out more precisely. He said this would make site selection more scientific and transparent.

The Chief Secretary further instructed all departments to appoint master resource persons for geospatial technology and ensure regular training of officials. He also emphasized integrating the BISAG-N developed application with the state’s “Unnati (State Progress)” portal.

The workshop was attended by senior officials including Principal Secretaries L. Fanai and R. Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretaries Dr. Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Dr. S.N. Pandey, Shridhara Babu Adanki, along with representatives from various departments and BISAG-N.
