Dehradun. Director General of Police (DGP) Deepam Seth chaired a high-level meeting with police officers to review terrorism control, border security, upcoming assembly elections, Char Dham Yatra, the upcoming Kumbh Mela, and security for major religious events. During the meeting, the DGP stressed the effective implementation of PRAHAAR—India’s first national-level counter-terrorism policy—across the state.
In light of intelligence inputs regarding Pakistani gangster Shahzad Bhatti attempting to radicalize youth through social media, special vigilance instructions were issued across all districts. Officials were asked to study operational models from major states to upgrade the State Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) to a higher professional standard and deploy specialized measures against evolving terrorist threats.
Enhanced Border Surveillance: Directions were issued to convene high-level inter-agency coordination meetings involving the ITBP, SSB, Army, IB, State Police, and ATS to curb suspicious activities, infiltration, and anti-national elements along districts bordering China and Nepal.
- Alert for CM Security & Elections: In view of the upcoming assembly elections and heightened security sensitivity, instructions were given to bolster Chief Minister security arrangements. Solid action plans were also called for regarding the Char Dham Yatra, Kumbh Mela, and upcoming major festivals like State Foundation Day, Navratri, Dussehra, and Diwali.
- 24/7 Social Media Monitoring: The DGP ordered round-the-clock monitoring of platforms including Facebook, X, Instagram, and WhatsApp groups. Directives were given to identify inflammatory content or elements disturbing law and order in a timely manner. Officials were instructed to issue prompt official fact-checks and rebuttals to misinformative news, tampered videos, deepfakes, and rumors in sensitive or communal matters.
DGP Seth also reviewed logistics, technical equipment, and manpower requirements, along with preparations for the President’s Police Color ceremony awarded to the Uttarakhand Police.
