Dehradun: The Uttarakhand Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday, approved 10 major proposals, including an increase in the stipend for medical interns, reservation of government posts for sportspersons, higher remuneration for government advocates and allocation of land for an ESI hospital in Haridwar.
10 Key Cabinet Decisions
- Stipend for MBBS interns increased: The stipend for MBBS intern doctors has been increased from ₹17,000 to ₹25,000. Intern doctors had been demanding a stipend of ₹30,000.
- 33 Assistant Teacher (Physical Education) posts reserved: Thirty-three posts of Assistant Teacher (Physical Education) under the Secondary Education Department have been reserved for medal-winning sportspersons.
- 283 government posts reserved for sportspersons: Under the Sports Policy-2021, 283 posts across various departments have been reserved for sportspersons. These include the Sports, Youth Welfare, Home, Transport, Education and Forest departments.
- Energy Department annual report: The annual reports of the Energy Department and Alternative Energy Department have been approved for being placed before the state Legislative Assembly.
- Annual report of Electricity Regulatory Commission: The Cabinet approved placing the annual report of the Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission before the Assembly.
- Additional Director General of Prisons post included in cadre: The Cabinet approved inclusion of one post of Additional Director General of Prisons in the cadre structure under the Uttarakhand Prison Department service rules.
- Government advocates to receive higher fees and remuneration: The rates of fees payable to government advocates will be revised. An increase in the remuneration of advocates appearing before the Supreme Court, High Court and subordinate courts was also approved.
- Amendment to Legal Metrology Department service rules: The Cabinet approved a proposal to amend the service rules of the Food and Legal Metrology Department.
- 972 square yards of land for Garhwal Sabha: The Cabinet approved a proposal to allot 972 square yards of land at the GMVN parking area to Garhwal Sabha.
- 15 acres for ESI hospital in Haridwar: The Cabinet approved the proposal to make 15 acres of land available for an Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) hospital near the existing land of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation Directorate in Haridwar.
The decisions concerning intern doctors and sportspersons are being viewed as particularly significant. The increase in the stipend is expected to provide relief to intern doctors who had been demanding a revision for some time.
