Dehradun. For the first time outside Dehradun, the Uttarakhand government’s cabinet meeting is set to take place in Champawat district. Preparations at the Secretariat level have been intensified for this proposed meeting in Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s home district. The meeting will take place on October 4, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the NHPC complex located in Banbasa.
The meeting is considered significant as it is being held for the first time in CM Dhami’s constituency, Champawat. Proposals are being prepared by concerned departments, and the agenda topics are being finalized. Proposals related to various departments, including health, education, energy, and transport, are expected to be presented. These may include policy decisions, development projects, and public interest matters.
Focus on Local Issues Through District Meetings
It has been a tradition of the Uttarakhand government to hold cabinet meetings outside Dehradun from time to time. The objective has been to review development work at the local level and make decisions on issues specific to the districts.
Earlier in 2010, during Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank’s government, a cabinet meeting was held at Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar during a campaign against Ganges pollution. In 2012, during Vijay Bahuguna’s government, a cabinet meeting was organized in Gairsain. Following that, after the construction of the Vidhan Sabha building in Bhararisain, Gairsain, cabinet meetings and assembly session activities have been held there regularly.
Significance of the Meeting in a Border District
Champawat is a border district in the Kumaon region and is also Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s home district. Thus, holding a cabinet meeting here opens up the possibility of discussions on local development and issues related to border areas.
After the meeting in Banbasa on October 4, the government may move towards hosting cabinet meetings in other districts as well. However, no decision has been announced regarding meetings in other districts yet.
