Dehradun: In view of continuous heavy rainfall across the state and the Orange Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed all government departments to remain on 24×7 alert. He instructed the Disaster Management Department to continuously review the situation across Uttarakhand and ensure that there is no delay in relief and rescue operations.
The Chief Minister ordered that blocked roads be reopened on priority and that an adequate number of JCBs, Pokland excavators, and other heavy machinery remain available for emergency operations. He also instructed District Magistrates and senior officials to visit the field, closely monitor the situation, and ensure immediate action on every reported incident.
Dhami further directed that helicopter services remain on full alert so they can be deployed immediately for rescue and relief operations in remote and disaster-affected areas whenever required. He also instructed authorities to restore electricity, drinking water, and communication services on priority if they are disrupted.
Keeping the Char Dham Yatra in mind, the Chief Minister stressed that the safety of pilgrims must remain the top priority. He directed officials to halt pilgrims at safe locations in the event of heavy rainfall or landslides and allow them to proceed only after weather conditions improve.
Meanwhile, Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman held a meeting with all District Magistrates and instructed them to maintain heightened vigilance in sensitive areas. The State Emergency Operations Centre is continuously monitoring the situation across the state.
The Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for July 29 and 30, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of Uttarakhand. The administration has advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from rivers, streams, and landslide-prone areas, and strictly follow advisories issued by the district administration.
