Dhami Government to Turn Energy Conservation into a Mass Movement; Strict Instructions Issued to All Departments

Dehradun: The Pushkar Singh Dhami government has taken a major step toward implementing a comprehensive action plan for energy conservation and fuel savings in the state. On the Chief Minister’s instructions, Chief Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu issued detailed guidelines to all departments, divisional commissioners, district magistrates, and heads of departments.

The government stated that after the COVID pandemic, along with the Russia-Ukraine war and ongoing tensions in West Asia, the need for energy efficiency and prudent use of resources has increased significantly. Keeping this in view, the state government is now preparing to turn energy conservation into a mass movement.

Under the issued guidelines, all government offices must maintain air conditioner temperatures between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius. Instructions have also been given to prevent unnecessary use of electricity and energy-consuming devices and to ensure regular monitoring.

Promotion of Public Transport and “No Vehicle Day”

The government has asked departments to encourage officials and employees to adopt public transport, carpooling, and shared vehicle systems. In addition, systems such as work from home, “No Vehicle Day,” video conferencing-based meetings, and cycle-sharing will be promoted to reduce fuel consumption.

Focus on Tourism and Local Economy

The state government is preparing to strengthen tourism and the local economy through the “Visit My State” and “Holiday in India” campaigns. Along with promoting religious, cultural, rural, and eco-tourism activities, a single-window clearance system will be developed for destination weddings.

Additionally, through the “Made in Uttarakhand” campaign, plans are being made to provide market access to local products and self-help groups.

Promotion of Natural Farming and Solar Energy

The government has also decided to promote natural farming, organic agriculture, and bio-input-based cultivation. Farmers will be trained in natural farming and zero-budget farming techniques.

Instructions have also been issued to accelerate solar energy, PNG, LPG, and biogas projects in the state. Rooftop solar projects under the Prime Minister Surya Ghar Scheme will also be encouraged.
