Dhami government’s big decision: Major changes in Forest Sub-Inspector recruitment, age limit increased and qualification raised to graduation

Dehradun: Ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, the Dhami government has made significant changes in the Forest Sub-Inspector recruitment rules with the aim of attracting youth. The proposal was approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and it is being considered an important decision of the government.

Under the new rules, the educational qualification for Forest Sub-Inspector recruitment has been raised from Intermediate to Graduation. This means only graduate candidates will now be eligible to apply. At the same time, major changes have also been made in the age limit—minimum age has been increased from 18 to 21 years, and maximum age from 28 to 35 years.

With this decision, older candidates will also get an opportunity. For the Forest Guard post, the age limit has been set between 18 to 25 years.

Talking about the recruitment process, the Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission (UKSSSC) conducts recruitment for Forest Sub-Inspector posts from time to time. Last year, recruitment was announced for 124 posts, and now, with the new rules, large-scale recruitment is expected.

The Forest Sub-Inspector recruitment includes a written exam as well as a physical efficiency test. Under physical standards, the minimum height is 163 cm for male candidates and 150 cm for female candidates, with relaxation for certain categories. In the running test, male candidates must complete 25 km and female candidates 14 km within the prescribed time.

The pay scale is fixed under Level-05, ranging from ₹29,200 to ₹92,300. This decision is also being viewed from a political perspective, as it is expected to create more employment opportunities for the youth.
