Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has announced a major housing initiative for economically weaker families under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). Construction of 1,872 EWS (Economically Weaker Section) housing units in the Bagwala area of Rudrapur is nearing completion, and eligible beneficiaries will soon receive allotments.
Each flat costs approximately ₹6 lakh, but eligible families will need to pay only ₹3 lakh. The remaining ₹3 lakh will be covered equally by the central and state governments through subsidies.
Modern Amenities
The project spans about 39,220 square meters and consists of 23 multi-storey residential blocks. So far, 832 flats have been fully completed, while another 512 are in the final stages of construction.
Each flat includes:
- One bedroom
- Drawing room
- Kitchen
- Toilet and bathroom
- Veranda
The buildings are earthquake-resistant and equipped with rainwater harvesting systems, sewage infrastructure, a sewage treatment plant (STP), and children’s parks.
Eligibility Criteria
- Registration on the PMAY Urban MIS portal is mandatory.
- Applicant must be a resident of Uttarakhand.
- Annual family income should not exceed ₹3 lakh.
- Neither the applicant nor any family member should own a permanent house anywhere in India.
Beneficiaries can apply by depositing ₹5,000 initially, and bank loan facilities will also be available. Selection will be conducted through a computerized random lottery system.
Housing Secretary R. Rajesh Kumar stated that the government is committed to providing housing to every eligible family and that the allotment process will begin soon.
