Five remarkable years of Dhami: UCC, anti-cheating law, stricter land legislation, stronger economy, and religious tourism highlighted as key achievements

Dehradun: As the Uttarakhand government completed five years under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the state government highlighted its major achievements, claiming that several landmark decisions have given Uttarakhand a distinct identity at the national level. Among the government’s key accomplishments are the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), the country’s strictest anti-cheating law for recruitment examinations, stricter anti-conversion and land laws, measures to accelerate economic growth, and the expansion of religious tourism.

According to the government, Uttarakhand became the first state in India to implement the Uniform Civil Code, which came into effect on 27 January 2025. It also introduced what it describes as the country’s toughest anti-cheating law in 2023 to ensure transparency in recruitment examinations, with provisions for life imprisonment and fines of up to ₹10 crore for offenders.

The government also cited amendments to strengthen the anti-conversion law, reforms to the state’s land law, and a campaign against illegal encroachments as major achievements. According to official claims, thousands of acres of government land have been freed from encroachment, and action has been taken against more than 250 illegal madrasas.

On the economic front, the government said the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has grown to ₹3.81 lakh crore, while per capita income has reached ₹2.73 lakh. It also highlighted Uttarakhand securing the top position among small states in NITI Aayog’s Export Preparedness Index 2024 and achieving a leading ranking in the SDG Index 2023–24.

In the tourism and religious infrastructure sector, the government listed improved management of the Char Dham Yatra, the launch of the first-ever Winter Char Dham Yatra, the Manaskhand Temple Mala Mission, and progress on the Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib ropeway projects among its major accomplishments.
