Government alert before Char Dham Yatra, daily review of gas supply – Chief Secretary

Dehradun. In view of the upcoming Char Dham Yatra and tourism season in the state, the government has become alert to ensure uninterrupted supply of domestic and commercial LPG gas. In this regard, a high-level meeting was held with oil companies under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary Food and Civil Supplies L. Phanai. Necessary instructions were issued after reviewing the gas supply situation in the state.

It was informed in the meeting that Food and Civil Supplies Secretary Anand Swaroop will now review gas supply on a daily basis to ensure there is no shortage in the state.

The Principal Secretary said that the Chief Secretary has clearly directed that there should be no shortage in the supply of domestic and commercial gas. For this, continuous coordination will be maintained with oil companies and the situation will be monitored daily.

Oil companies were instructed to ensure adequate daily supply considering the increasing demand in the state. At present, directions have been given to supply around 60,000 domestic cylinders and 6,000 commercial cylinders daily. They were also asked to eliminate backlog through additional supply and provide daily reports.

Oil companies informed that on April 7, 2026, a total of 65,944 domestic cylinders and 3,864 commercial cylinders were supplied in the state. Of these, IOCL supplied 48,218 domestic and 2,340 commercial cylinders, BPCL supplied 11,731 domestic and 698 commercial cylinders, and HPCL supplied 5,995 domestic and 826 commercial cylinders. According to officials, gas supply has shown continuous improvement compared to the past few days.

The Principal Secretary instructed that the gas supply system be further strengthened in view of the Char Dham Yatra. Special emphasis was laid on resolving network and distribution issues in mountainous areas on priority. Oil companies were directed to take necessary steps at higher levels to increase supply according to rising demand.

It was also directed that a daily review meeting will now be held at 5 PM under the chairmanship of Secretary Anand Swaroop, where representatives of oil companies will participate with complete information.

Secretary Anand Swaroop informed that the Prime Minister’s visit to Dehradun is proposed on April 14, 2026, while the Char Dham Yatra will begin from April 19. Keeping this in mind, oil companies have been instructed to plan in advance and increase supply.

The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner P.S. Pangti, IOCL Divisional Head Swarn Singh, HPCL Chief Regional Manager Pankaj Ambaladhge, BPCL Manager Ashwani Kumar, and other officials.

Strict action continues against irregularities
Secretary Anand Swaroop said that an intensive enforcement campaign is being conducted to curb irregularities related to LPG and fuel in the state. So far, 6,280 inspections and 423 raids have been conducted.

During the campaign, 19 FIRs were registered and 7 people were arrested. A total of 1,118 gas cylinders were seized across the state, including 946 domestic and 172 commercial cylinders.

Additionally, one vehicle, three filling kits, and one weighing scale were seized. The highest seizure was in Dehradun, where 288 gas cylinders and 139 kilograms of gas were confiscated. Action was also taken in Haridwar, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Champawat, and Bageshwar. A fine of ₹1,31,900 has also been imposed.

He said the campaign will continue and strict instructions have been given to follow a zero-tolerance policy against any irregularities.
