Dehradun: Following the directions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Housing Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar expressed dissatisfaction over the slow progress of housing projects under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) during a review meeting. He instructed that all housing projects must be completed before August 15, 2026, under all circumstances.
He warned that developers and implementing agencies failing to meet the deadline would face action as per the terms of their contracts.
Dr. Kumar stated that the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is one of the Central Government’s most significant welfare schemes and that negligence or unnecessary delays would not be tolerated. He emphasized that ensuring timely possession of permanent homes to beneficiaries remains the government’s highest priority.
During the review, several developers were reprimanded for the slow pace of construction. Officials were directed to closely monitor all projects, ensure the availability of required resources, and complete projects nearing completion on a war footing.
The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) was also instructed to expedite the allotment process for the Dhaulas Housing Project. Officials were further asked to prepare for the timely handover of completed houses to beneficiaries in projects nearing completion.
Dr. Kumar said the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is not merely a construction programme but a scheme that fulfills the dream of homeownership for thousands of economically weaker families. He added that under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the state government is committed to ensuring that every eligible beneficiary receives a house on time. He directed officials to increase field inspections and maintain continuous monitoring to eliminate delays and facilitate early delivery of homes.
