Dehradun. The state government is working at a rapid pace to give Dehradun’s urban infrastructure a new identity. Following the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) is aggressively pursuing projects that will give the city a well-planned, safe, and modern look.
In this context, Housing Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar conducted a joint on-site inspection of three crucial MDDA projects: the Indira Market Redevelopment, the Aadhat Bazaar Development, and the Tehsil Complex Multi-Level Car Parking on Saturday.
During the inspection, he conducted a detailed review of the progress and instructed the concerned officials that no compromise on quality, safety, and timeliness will be tolerated.
He stated that these three projects will bring about historic improvements in the city’s transportation system, business infrastructure, and public convenience. During the inspection, clear instructions were given that timeliness, quality, and public interest are paramount. During the joint inspection, the Housing Secretary stated that a new direction for urban development in Dehradun is being set under the Chief Minister’s leadership. He directed officials to ensure transparency in projects and promptly remove technical and administrative obstacles.
He also directed officials to prioritize regular monitoring. MDDA Secretary Mohan Singh Barniya, Executive Engineer Sunil Kumar, Additional Engineer Naveen Chandra Juneja, Nazir Ahmed, Architect Prashant Nautiyal, Project Director, Construction Unit, and other relevant officials were present.
Why All Three Projects Are Important
The Indira Market Redevelopment Project is targeted for completion by December so that affected shopkeepers can be quickly allotted shops. This will give a new look to the narrow market located in the heart of the city.
The Aadhat Bazaar Project proposes to develop the road between Tehsil Chowk and Saharanpur Chowk in the city center into a 24-meter-wide, streamlined road. Currently, the road width is 16 to 18 meters, causing traffic congestion. Meanwhile, to address parking problems in the Paltan Bazaar and Tehsil Chowk areas, a multi-level car parking space is proposed, along with a new Tehsil office.

- Construction of shops will begin after the basement, ensuring timely relocation of affected traders.
- The Secretary directed that construction quality, safety measures, and deadlines be prioritized on-site.
Aadhat Bazaar Project: New Organized Market
- This project is considered crucial to eliminating the chaos in the Arhat Bazaar located in the heart of the city.
- The new Arhat Bazaar is being developed on 7.7 hectares of land on the Haridwar Bypass, Kargi.

- The Secretary directed that the work be completed in accordance with the highest standards of quality and durability.
Tehsil Multi-Level Car Parking: The city will receive a major relief center.
- This project has been considered important given the persistent traffic congestion from Paltan Bazaar to Tehsil Chowk.
- A multi-level car parking lot with a capacity of approximately 1,000 vehicles will be built alongside a modern Tehsil building.
- Negotiations regarding land and coordination with the Darbar Sahib are ongoing.
- The Secretary directed officials to expedite the negotiation process and take prompt steps to implement the project.
