Dehradun: The sacred Sikh pilgrimage site Gurudwara Shri Hemkund Sahib will open its portals for devotees on May 23, 2026.
In this regard, the Chairman of the Hemkund Sahib Management Trust, Narendra Jeet Singh Bindra, met Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan and held detailed discussions regarding preparations for the upcoming pilgrimage.
After reviewing the current weather conditions and snowfall situation, it was decided that the shrine will open for devotees on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The trust manages the pilgrimage in coordination with the state government and provides free accommodation and meals for pilgrims through dharamshalas located in Haridwar, Rishikesh, Srinagar, Joshimath, Govindghat and Ghangaria.
Langar facilities are also provided at Hemkund Sahib, although night stay is not permitted there due to the high altitude and limited resources.
Officials said that snowfall this year has been comparatively lower, making it possible to begin the pilgrimage slightly earlier than usual. However, due to climate change, weather conditions in the Himalayan region remain unpredictable.
Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan assured full cooperation from the state government to ensure safe, smooth and well-organized travel for pilgrims visiting both the Char Dham Yatra and Hemkund Sahib.
Located at an altitude of over 15,000 feet in the Himalayas, Hemkund Sahib is one of the holiest sites in Sikhism. It is believed that the tenth Sikh Guru Guru Gobind Singh meditated at this place.
The trust has appealed to pilgrims to follow safety guidelines and undertake the journey with proper preparation.
