International Union for Conservation of Nature’s BRIDGE Global Thematic Meeting Concludes in Dehradun

Dehradun. Under the aegis of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, a five-day “BRIDGE” Global Thematic Meeting was organized in Dehradun from 23 to 27 February 2026. Around 18 to 20 representatives from Asia, Africa, South America, and Europe participated in this international dialogue. The meeting reviewed programs related to river basin management, integrated watershed management, and nature-based solutions, and held detailed discussions on future strategies.

Courtesy Meeting with Secretary Watershed, Emphasis on Natural Water Source Conservation

During the meeting, the international delegation paid a courtesy visit to Watershed Secretary Dilip Jawalkar at the Secretariat. The Secretary expressed concern over the adverse impact on agriculture due to migration and climate change, as well as the issue of soil erosion. He stated that given Uttarakhand’s challenging geographical conditions, it is essential to adopt an integrated and scientific approach for the conservation of natural water sources.

The delegation also made a detailed presentation on natural water source conservation and the spring recharge model, sharing successful examples of rejuvenation of water sources in mountainous regions.

Cooperation on Wetlands and Natural Source Rejuvenation

International representatives gathered information on the current status and conservation measures of Uttarakhand’s wetlands. They expressed commitment to providing technical cooperation in the field of natural source rejuvenation. Members of the delegation also expressed their desire for long-term cooperation with Uttarakhand in the future.

Initiative Towards Ecological Stability of the Ganga Basin

This global meeting became an important opportunity to share Uttarakhand’s ongoing source and river rejuvenation initiatives at the international level. Experts emphasized the need for knowledge exchange and cooperation to strengthen the long-term ecological stability of the Ganga Basin.

The program was attended by the Additional Secretary Watershed, Additional Secretary Drinking Water, officials of the State Watershed and Rejuvenation Authority, representatives of the Forest Department, and officers from other concerned departments.
