In a significant administrative decision, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of central deputation tenures for two senior officers — Rajeev Kumar in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Amit Meena in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
The orders, issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), formalised the extensions following proposals from the respective ministries.
Rajeev Kumar’s Tenure Extended in MHA
Rajeev Kumar (IOFS:2000) will continue to serve as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for an additional year.
According to the DoPT order issued on February 28, 2026, the ACC has approved the proposal of the MHA to extend his deputation tenure by one year with effect from March 5, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The extension ensures continuity in a crucial department of the Union Government, where Joint Secretaries play a key role in policy coordination, internal security oversight, and administrative supervision.
Amit Meena’s Deputation Extended Till March 2028
In a separate order dated February 24, 2026, the ACC approved a two-year extension for Amit Meena (IAS:2011:KL) as Director in the
Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).
His deputation has been extended beyond March 30, 2026, up to March 30, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Meena has been on central deputation since March 30, 2021, when he joined as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Revenue. During his tenure, he was also placed on compulsory wait in the Department of Economic Affairs. In August 2024, he was appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship.
His original five-year central deputation tenure was scheduled to conclude on March 30, 2026. With the latest approval, he will now continue in his role for two additional years, providing stability and continuity in the skill development sector.
Ensuring Administrative Continuity
The extensions reflect the Centre’s emphasis on maintaining leadership continuity in key ministries. Such decisions are often taken to ensure uninterrupted policy execution, especially in strategic and reform-oriented departments.
With these approvals, both officers will continue contributing to their respective ministries, reinforcing administrative stability and policy momentum at the central level.
