Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 Gains Momentum; MoU Signed Between Uttarakhand Government and Centre

Dehradun: Under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0, an MoU was signed between the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, National Jal Jeevan Mission, Ministry of Jal Shakti, and the Government of Uttarakhand. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami joined the program virtually and described it as a significant step toward accelerating drinking water schemes in the state.

The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil, stating that in a mountainous and border state like Uttarakhand, Jal Jeevan Mission is not just a government scheme but a campaign linked to the lives and health of around 1.4 million rural families. He informed that approximately 16,500 schemes have been approved under the mission in the state, most of which have been completed, while work on the remaining is progressing rapidly.

He added that despite difficult geographical conditions and disaster vulnerability, the state government is giving top priority to Himalayan conservation and water source augmentation. Efforts are being made toward long-term conservation through digital monitoring systems, a glacier research center, water source conservation campaigns, and public participation.

The Chief Minister further stated that to preserve traditional water sources, the state has established a Spring and River Rejuvenation Authority. Over the past year, more than 6,500 water sources have been conserved and treated. Additionally, work is ongoing on rainwater harvesting and the revival of ponds and traditional water sources in 1,000 villages.

Union Minister C. R. Patil appreciated Uttarakhand’s efforts in water conservation and assured full support from the Ministry of Jal Shakti. The program was also attended by V. Somanna and other senior officials from the ministry and the state government.
