Major Crackdown on Land Fraud in Kumaon; Commissioner Recommends FIRs in 30 Cases

Haldwani: Acting on the directions of the Chief Minister, the administration has intensified action against land fraud cases in the Kumaon region.

At a meeting of the Land Fraud Coordination Committee chaired by Kumaon Commissioner and Chief Minister’s Secretary Deepak Rawat at the Circuit House in Kathgodam, 77 cases from Almora, Nainital, and Udham Singh Nagar districts were reviewed.

Following the review:

  • 1 case from Almora
  • 12 cases from Udham Singh Nagar
  • 17 cases from Nainital

were found to have prima facie irregularities, and FIRs were recommended in all 30 cases.

Deepak Rawat instructed officials to ensure swift disposal of pending cases and take effective action against those responsible. He emphasized that negligence in handling land-related fraud and disputes would not be tolerated.

The meeting also examined the role of banks in disputed property transactions. The Commissioner stated that if loans had been sanctioned against mortgaged properties that were subsequently sold, accountability could also extend to the concerned banks.

He further termed cases involving multiple registrations of the same land as serious and directed authorities to fix responsibility on registrars and sub-registrars where necessary.
