Dehradun: To promote sports talent and strengthen the sports infrastructure in Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has issued several key directives to officials. During a review meeting of the Sports and Youth Welfare Department at the Secretariat, the Chief Minister said that the process of granting out-of-turn government jobs to athletes who win medals in national and international competitions should be completed within the stipulated timeframe. He also directed that a plan be prepared to provide maximum appointments to players within the Sports Department itself.
The Chief Minister said that a new sports policy for Uttarakhand should be formulated in line with the Central Government’s National Sports Policy 2025, so that athletes can be provided modern facilities and better opportunities. He instructed officials to ensure timely preparations for starting the academic session next month at the Uttarakhand State Sports University in Gola Par (Haldwani).
In the meeting, the Chief Minister also directed that construction work under the “One Block–One Mini Stadium” scheme be accelerated, and a detailed maintenance plan be prepared for sports complexes developed during the 38th National Games. He emphasized that sports facilities developed in Dehradun, Haldwani, Rudrapur, Tehri, Haridwar, and Pithoragarh should be optimally used for athlete training.
Looking ahead to the 39th National Games in 2027, the Chief Minister called for the launch of special training camps across various sports and faster identification of talented athletes. He said the government’s goal is to establish Uttarakhand not only as “Devbhoomi” but also as a “Sports Land”.
He also directed effective implementation of the “One District–One Sport” scheme, promotion of coaching and competitions for designated sports in each district, and development of district sports hostels as sports nurseries.
Officials informed the meeting that 29 medal-winning athletes have already been given government jobs so far. They also stated that 48 mini stadiums have been completed, while construction of 10 more is underway.
It was further informed that construction of India’s first women’s residential sports college in Lohaghat is progressing rapidly, while at the Gola Par Sports University site, infrastructure including a library, research centre, shooting range, hockey and football grounds, badminton hall, and an eight-lane athletics track is being developed along with 39 modern sports facilities.
The Chief Minister said the government’s aim is to ensure quality sports facilities reach every athlete in the state and to build a strong sports ecosystem to fulfil the dreams of the youth.
