Dehradun. Uttarakhand is preparing to take a major step toward linking youth with employment. Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan has proposed setting up at least one model skill center in every district, focusing on job-oriented training, certification, and 100% placement.
In a meeting at the Secretariat, discussions were held on developing modern skill centers with support from the Asian Development Bank. The plan aims to provide industry-relevant training to create more employment opportunities.
Industry-linked skill centers
The Chief Secretary stated that these centers will be developed as industry-linked hubs rather than just training institutes. Partnerships will be established with private companies and training organizations to ensure direct employment after training.
Courses based on local needs
Courses will be designed based on local requirements. In mountainous regions, focus will be on tourism, hospitality, adventure, and handicrafts, while urban areas will prioritize IT, service sectors, and construction-related training.
Soft skills and interview preparation
Along with technical training, youth will receive soft skills development, communication training, and interview preparation to make them fully job-ready.
Modern infrastructure
With ADB support, the centers will be equipped with modern technology and tools. Training, assessment, certification, and placement processes will be integrated.
Reducing unemployment
This initiative is expected to reduce unemployment in the state and strengthen the economy. Experts believe that focusing on skill development will help Uttarakhand move toward self-reliance. This plan is seen as an important initiative to empower youth and secure their future.
