New education model in Uttarakhand: Minority Education Authority replaces Madrasa Board

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has introduced a major reform in minority education by dissolving the Madrasa Board and establishing the Uttarakhand State Minority Education Authority.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched the new authority at a programme held at the Chief Minister’s residence, calling it a historic step in education reform. Recognition certificates were also issued to various minority educational institutions, and NCERT books were distributed to students.

The Chief Minister said the aim is not to affect any community’s traditions or identity, but to provide equal and quality education to all notified minority communities.

He said the state is working in line with the National Education Policy 2020 to link education with employment, innovation, entrepreneurship, and skill development. He emphasized that no child should be deprived of quality education in the era of artificial intelligence and digital technology.

He further said that from 1 July 2026, the new authority will not only grant recognition to institutions but also monitor teacher training, quality of education, transparency, and implementation of the National Education Policy.

The Chief Minister added that the goal is to ensure minority students remain connected to their cultural and religious traditions while also gaining proficiency in science, mathematics, computers, digital education, and skills, improving their opportunities for higher education and employment.

The event was attended by Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi, MLA Pradeep Batra, MLA Umesh Sharma Kau, and other dignitaries.
