Dehradun: The appeal made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding fuel conservation and reduced use of petrol and diesel is now visibly influencing Uttarakhand as well. On Saturday, officials and employees of the Information Department in Dehradun observed “No Vehicle Day” by reaching office through public transport, electric vehicles, and bicycles instead of private vehicles, spreading the message of energy conservation.
The most notable initiative came from Director General of Information Banshidhar Tiwari, who cycled nearly 16 kilometers from his residence on Sahastradhara Road to the Information Directorate on Ring Road. His effort was not limited to simply commuting to office but became a strong message promoting energy conservation, environmental protection, and responsible administration.
Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for energy saving and under the directions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Information Department has decided to observe “No Vehicle Day” every Saturday.
In the same spirit, Additional Director Information Ashish Tripathi arrived at the office by e-rickshaw, while Joint Director K.S. Chauhan walked several kilometers to reach the Information Directorate.
Director General Banshidhar Tiwari appealed to officers and employees to adopt alternatives such as public transport, carpooling, and cycling. Under his leadership, a “Save Fuel Campaign” is also being run in MDDA, focusing on fuel conservation, limited electricity use, and environmental protection.
In a rapidly growing city like Dehradun, where traffic congestion and pollution are becoming major challenges, a senior officer cycling to office himself is being seen as an inspiring initiative. Departmental officials stated that small efforts lay the foundation for major changes, and this campaign is an important step in that direction.
