Political tussle over women’s reservation intensifies; CM Dhami targets opposition

Dehradun: The political atmosphere across the country is heating up over women’s reservation. The exchange of आरोप-प्रत्यारोप (allegations and counter-allegations) among political parties has intensified. While the ruling side is accusing the opposition of opposing women’s rights, the opposition is questioning the government’s intentions. Meanwhile, the issue has started gaining momentum in Uttarakhand as well.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami strongly targeted opposition parties over the issue of women’s reservation. He said that blocking such an important bill related to women’s interests is extremely unfortunate and is a direct attack on women’s rights and their political representation.

The Chief Minister alleged that opposition parties do not want ordinary women to reach Parliament and state assemblies. He said that the parties opposing the bill already have women from their own families active in politics and holding high positions, but when it comes to giving opportunities to common women, they opposed it.

Dhami said that this bill could have proven to be a historic step toward women’s empowerment. It would have not only increased women’s participation but also strengthened their role in policymaking. He added that by blocking the bill, the opposition has deprived women of a major opportunity.

Meanwhile, opposition parties hit back at the government, saying that the issue of women’s reservation is being turned into a political agenda. They alleged that instead of taking all parties along, the government is trying to gain political advantage from the issue.
