Dehradun: In view of global conditions, a high-level meeting was held by the state government to ensure smooth supply of gas and fuel in Uttarakhand. The meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan and attended by District Magistrates, police officials, supply department, and representatives of oil companies.
It was informed that domestic gas supply in the state is currently normal, and hospitals and educational institutions are receiving regular supply. However, supply of commercial gas cylinders is relatively lower.
The Chief Secretary directed oil companies to increase supply of commercial cylinders as per the new व्यवस्था.
Officials also confirmed that diesel and petrol stocks are sufficient and supply remains normal. The Agriculture Department stated that fertilizers are adequately available, and directions were issued to prevent misuse and ensure controlled distribution.
Considering the upcoming Char Dham Yatra, discussions were held regarding increased demand for gas. Officials indicated that demand for commercial cylinders may rise from April 19 onwards. Instructions were given to ensure additional gas supply along the pilgrimage routes and send proposals to the central government if needed.
The meeting also emphasized promoting alternative energy sources such as wood, solar energy, pine-needle briquettes, induction stoves, and biofuels.
Additionally, expansion of piped natural gas supply was reviewed. Officials reported that companies are actively laying pipelines and issuing new connections under the city gas distribution network.
The Chief Secretary instructed regular monitoring of this work and also directed police to increase vigilance along international borders to prevent smuggling of gas and fertilizers.
A suggestion was also made to allow temporary provision of two gas connections for wedding functions.
Senior officials from food, energy, and home departments, along with divisional commissioners, district magistrates, and police officers, were present in the meeting.
The government clarified that the gas and fuel supply chain will be continuously monitored to ensure that the public does not face any inconvenience.
