Dehradun: The investigation into the suspicious death of Srishti Kandari, a resident of the Devprayag Assembly constituency, has been transferred to the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID). In view of demands for a fair and thorough probe, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has issued written orders directing that the case be handed over to the CB-CID.
Following Srishti Kandari’s death, her family members and local residents had been demanding an impartial investigation. Devprayag MLA Vinod Kandari also met the Chief Minister and requested that the case be investigated by the CB-CID, stating that it is a highly sensitive matter requiring an unbiased inquiry.
Taking the seriousness of the case into account, the Chief Minister instructed the Home Secretary to immediately transfer the investigation to the CB-CID. The agency will now re-examine the crime scene, police investigation records, post-mortem report, forensic and electronic evidence, and witness statements. If necessary, it will also re-question those connected with the case.
MLA Vinod Kandari welcomed the Chief Minister’s decision, expressing confidence that the CB-CID would conduct a fair investigation, establish the truth, and ensure strict legal action against anyone found guilty.
Background of the Case
Srishti Kandari married Saurabh Khatri, a resident of Harrawala and a Private Secretary in the Secretariat, in November 2025. Srishti was a government school teacher. Her family has alleged that she was subjected to dowry harassment and mental torture after marriage, which led her to die by suicide. Based on a complaint filed by her mother, the police registered a case against her husband, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law. The entire case will now be investigated by the CB-CID.
