Dehradun: Ahead of the monsoon season, a state-level mock drill was conducted across all districts in Uttarakhand to test disaster management systems. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed officials to ensure preparedness, rapid response, and effective use of modern technology.
During the drill at IT Park, Dehradun, the Chief Minister said that the exercise is meant to test coordination between departments, communication systems, availability of resources, and the actual capacity of relief and rescue mechanisms. He instructed all districts to send detailed review reports within 72 hours to the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority.
He said that advanced technologies such as AI-based early warning systems, digital monitoring, drone surveillance, GIS mapping, satellite monitoring, and data-based risk assessment are being integrated into disaster management to reduce loss of life and property.
Rapid response teams have been strengthened, and early warning systems are being expanded to reach remote areas in time. Efforts like water source conservation, glacier studies, plantation, and environmental protection are also part of disaster risk reduction strategies.
He also released the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Plan (SDMP) and District Disaster Management Plans (DDMPs) for all 13 districts, calling them important guiding documents for risk reduction and coordination.
During the event, the Chief Minister inspected modern rescue equipment displayed by SDRF, NDRF, and the fire department, including thermal imaging cameras, night vision systems, underwater drones, sonar systems, and other advanced tools used in CBRNE disaster response.
