Dehradun: Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan on Thursday held a review meeting at the Secretariat with officials of concerned departments regarding the development of the Tehri Lake region as a global destination. During the meeting, he directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan for the integrated development of the Tehri Lake Ring Road and surrounding areas under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “One State, One Global Destination” initiative.
The Chief Secretary said that the Tehri Special Area Development Authority (THADA) will function as the Destination Management Organization for developing the entire region into a global destination. He instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive and long-term plan for the Tehri Lake region, maintaining a balance between tourism, environmental conservation, and modern amenities.
He said the plan should include construction of the Tehri Lake Ring Road, iconic bridges, green pedestrian pathways, adventure tourism activities, wellness centers, eco parks, and natural viewpoints. He added that while the project may be implemented in phases, the complete master plan should be prepared together.
Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan also emphasized strengthening end-to-end connectivity to Tehri. He directed officials to explore possibilities for road widening, beautification, and development of alternative routes. He further instructed that all construction work should be carried out according to the geographical conditions of the area while preserving greenery and natural beauty at all costs.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary also directed the inclusion of a waterdrome and waterport in the project. He said the design of iconic bridges should be prepared keeping future seaplane projects in mind. Additionally, directions were issued to develop the helipad near Dobara-Chanthi Bridge into a heliport.
The Chief Secretary said that all departments and institutions associated with this ambitious project should work in coordination to develop the Tehri region into an international-level tourist destination.
The meeting was attended by Secretaries Sachin Kurve, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Dheeraj Garbyal, Additional Secretaries Vineet Kumar and Abhishek Rohila, along with senior officials from various departments.
