Tehri: With the aim of promoting tourism in the district, trekking expeditions will be organized at nine locations during the Tehri Lake Festival scheduled from March 6 to 9. Through these expeditions, participants will get the opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the Himalayas and become familiar with rural life.
After the formation of the lake, Tehri has emerged in recent years as a major destination for water sports. However, several attractive trekking routes passing through mountain slopes, forests, and alpine meadows (bugyals) also exist here. The district administration is preparing to showcase these routes to tourists through trekking activities during the festival.
District Magistrate Neetika Khandelwal stated that the objective of these trekking expeditions is not limited to adventure activities alone, but also to promote local tourism, strengthen the rural economy, and establish Tehri as an adventure destination. She added that trained guides will accompany participants during the treks, and proper arrangements have been made for safety and convenience.
An “Astro Night” will also be organized during the festival, where participants will observe the stars under the clear night sky. Trekking during the day and stargazing at night will provide participants with a unique opportunity to connect with nature. Organized jointly by the Tehri district administration and the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Council, the Himalayan O₂ – Tehri Lake Festival is proposed to be inaugurated on March 6 by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
