Khatima / Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami addressed the Tharu Holi Mahamahotsav in Khatima virtually from the Chief Minister’s residence. He greeted the attendees and expressed regret for not being able to attend in person due to administrative commitments.
He said that the cultural traditions of the Tharu community are rich and glorious. Their customs, folk songs, traditional dances, and deep connection with nature are an invaluable heritage of the state. He added that Tharu culture is a matter of pride not only for Khatima but for the entire Uttarakhand.
He stated that Tharu Holi has a unique identity due to its traditions and is celebrated with enthusiasm over several days. Such events help preserve cultural heritage and connect the younger generation with traditions and values.
He said his heart is always connected with the people of Khatima. The government is continuously working for the overall development of tribal communities through schemes in education, health, employment, and basic facilities.
He mentioned that under the Atal Housing Scheme, income limits have been made practical and construction costs increased to benefit more families. In Udham Singh Nagar district, financial assistance worth crores has been provided under the scheme.
Under the rural housing scheme, many tribal families have received houses, and about 28% of applications this year are from tribal families. Houses have also been built under the Janman Housing Scheme.
He highlighted efforts in education, including development of Ashram schools, hostels, and ITIs, and upgrading schools up to class 12. Eklavya Model Residential Schools are providing quality education to tribal children. Infrastructure development is also underway in Khatima, Bazpur, and Gadarpur.
Women are being empowered through employment and training under the National Rural Livelihood Mission. Van Dhan centers are helping connect products to markets, and financial assistance is being provided for self-employment.
He added that under the Border Area Development Programme, many schemes have been successfully implemented, providing drinking water, electricity, and gas connections to thousands of families. Funds have also been approved for Tharu Development Bhawan and infrastructure in tribal areas.
He said financial assistance is also being provided for daughters’ marriages, benefiting many families. Tribal welfare officers have been appointed in districts to accelerate development.
The government is not limited to announcements but is working to implement schemes effectively. The goal is to ensure a dignified life for every tribal family, quality education for children, and employment opportunities for youth.
