Dehradun: Two senior IAS officers from the Uttarakhand cadre have been assigned important responsibilities in the central government. Senior IAS officer Sachin Kurve has been appointed Chairperson of the Chennai Port Authority, while IAS officer Senthil Pandian has been appointed Joint Secretary in the Department of Drinking Water under the Government of India.
According to orders issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, 2003-batch IAS officer Sachin Kurve has been appointed as Chairperson of the Chennai Port Authority at the Joint Secretary level for a tenure of five years.
Sachin Kurve has previously handled several important departments in the Uttarakhand government. At present, he was overseeing key departments such as Health and Civil Aviation. His central deputation is being considered administratively significant.
Reports indicate that Sachin Kurve will replace the current Chairperson of the Chennai Port Authority. Chennai Port is among India’s major seaports, and the position is considered highly important in the central government.
Meanwhile, senior Uttarakhand cadre IAS officer Senthil Pandian has also been assigned a new responsibility at the Centre. Currently serving on central deputation, he has now been appointed Joint Secretary in the Department of Drinking Water under the Government of India.
Considering his administrative experience and role in project implementation, the appointment is regarded as significant.
Following these appointments, discussions regarding administrative reshuffling in the Uttarakhand government have intensified, especially concerning new appointments in the Health and Civil Aviation departments.
According to sources, the state government has also issued No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for some other IAS officers for central deputation. As a result, more officers from the Uttarakhand cadre may soon take up responsibilities in the central government.
