Dehradun: Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan on Tuesday reviewed the Urban Development Department’s plans and directed officials to accelerate efforts to make all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Uttarakhand clean, safe, climate-resilient, and financially self-reliant.
During the meeting, he instructed officials to ensure 100% segregation of waste at source and scientific processing of municipal waste across all urban local bodies. He also directed that the restoration of legacy dumping sites be completed at the earliest.
The Chief Secretary said that making all urban local bodies self-sufficient is essential in line with the department’s vision. He also emphasized organizing exposure visits for officials and departmental staff to well-managed cities in India and abroad so they can adopt best practices in urban management for implementation in Uttarakhand.
To improve drinking water quality, he directed the installation of water quality sensors not only at water sources but also at the terminal points of drinking water supply lines. He further stressed promoting digital governance by ensuring that all urban local bodies are onboarded onto digital platforms at the earliest.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Nitesh Kumar Jha, Additional Secretary Abhishek Ruhela, and other senior departmental officials.
