Dehradun: On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, the Shailesh Matiyani State Educational Awards ceremony was organised at Lok Bhavan in Dehradun. At the ceremony, Governor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Gurmit Singh honoured 19 teachers selected for the year 2025.
The Governor said that teachers are not merely professionals associated with a particular occupation, but mentors who guide generations and shape the future of the nation. Along with imparting knowledge, teachers enrich students with values, confidence and life skills. He said the true success of a teacher lies in seeing a child from an ordinary family progress under their guidance and go on to become a source of pride and recognition for the country.
The Governor said that the purpose of education is not merely to provide information, but to develop in children the ability to think, understand, question and make the right decisions. He emphasised that modern education requires a balanced integration of technology and the sensitivity of teachers. He urged teachers to connect children not only with modern knowledge but also with Uttarakhand’s folk culture, environment, traditions and Himalayan way of life.
Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat congratulated the award-winning teachers and said that selecting 19 teachers from among nearly 70,000 teachers in the state was a challenging process. He said the award recognises the teachers’ outstanding work and their dedication to education. He also announced that major works of renowned writer Shailesh Matiyani would be made available in school libraries so that students could become familiar with his literature.

Secondary Education Category:
Narendra Singh Negi from Pauri Garhwal, Dr. Suman Dhyani Sharma from Chamoli, Dr. Atul Kumar Srivastava from Dehradun, Kamlesh Panwar from Haridwar, Naveen Chandra Pant from Champawat, and Bishan Singh Mehta from Nainital received the awards.
Training Institute Category:
Dr. Subodh Singh Bisht from Uttarkashi was honoured.
Under the Special Honour category, Manjubala of Champawat, a recipient of the National Teachers’ Award, was also felicitated.
