Dehradun. To boost pulse (dal) production and guarantee fair market pricing for regional farmers, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan directed officials to prepare a proposal requesting Central Government approval to procure locally produced pulses at Minimum Support Price (MSP) through NAFED and NCDC.
Highlights of the Pulse Production Strategy
- Project Timeline: The Central Government project will run from FY 2025-26 through FY 2030-31, focusing on black gram (urad), pigeon pea (arhar), and lentils (masoor).
- Productivity Target: Raise pulse productivity and quality targets to 12 quintals per hectare using certified high-yielding seeds and advanced farming techniques.
- Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs): Establishment of a dedicated FPO cell to assist organized farmer groups with production, processing, marketing, and value addition.
- Local Processing Units: Setting up local pulse processing units to drive value addition, enhance farmer incomes, and increase regional protein availability.
