Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has issued detailed guidelines for the smooth and successful conduct of Census 2027. In the instructions issued by Census Secretary Deepak Kumar, residents of the state have been appealed to fully cooperate in the census process and provide correct and clear answers to all questions asked.
The guidelines state that the census is the country’s most important statistical foundation, through which information related to housing conditions, available facilities, assets, population, literacy, religion, economic activities, migration, and several other important aspects is obtained down to village and urban levels. These statistics are used by the central and state governments for policy-making, planning, and improving administrative arrangements.
The guidelines also clarify that census data play an important role in delimitation and reservation of parliamentary, assembly, panchayat, and local body constituencies.
According to the government, census officers will have the authority to ask every person in their assigned area questions notified by the central government. It will be the legal duty of every citizen to provide accurate information to the best of their knowledge. However, no person will be compelled to disclose the name of a female family member. Similarly, no woman will be compelled to mention the name of her husband, deceased husband, or any person whose name is traditionally considered inappropriate to mention.
According to the guidelines, every homeowner or occupant must allow census officers to enter their premises and permit the marking of census-related symbols, letters, or numbers.
The government has clearly stated that if any person intentionally provides false information, refuses to answer correctly, obstructs census officials from performing their duties, or removes or damages census markings, legal action will be taken against them.
Additionally, all records, registers, and schedules collected during the census will be kept completely confidential, and no individual will be allowed to inspect them.
