Dehradun: The Pushkar Singh Dhami government in Uttarakhand carried out a major transfer of police officers in the state on Friday, February 13th. The state government has changed the responsibilities of a total of 20 Indian Police Service (IPS) and Provincial Police Service (PPS) officers. Significantly, this list also includes the Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) of important districts like Dehradun and Haridwar.
The most prominent name on the list is Ajay Singh, currently the Senior Superintendent of Police of Dehradun. Ajay Singh has been removed from the post of Dehradun SSP and assigned to the SSP STF (Special Task Force). It is believed that the Dehradun SSP has been replaced following five murders in the last 16 days. IPS Pramod Singh Dobal will now replace Ajay Singh as the Dehradun Captain. Dobal currently serves as the Haridwar SSP. Meanwhile, Navneet Bhullar will replace Dobal as the Haridwar SSP. Navneet Bhullar was previously responsible for the STF (Special Task Force) role.
In addition, another major change has occurred. Manikant Mishra has been removed from his position as SSP of Udham Singh Nagar and given the responsibility of Superintendent of Police (Intelligence). Ajay Ganpati Kumbhar has been appointed as the new SSP of Udham Singh Nagar, replacing Manikant Mishra. Ajay Ganpati Kumbhar, currently the SP of Champawat, has been appointed SP of Champawat. Rekha Yadav was currently the SP of Pithoragarh. Akshay Prahlad Konde has been appointed SP of Pithoragarh in place of Rekha Yadav.
Chandrashekhar has been removed from Bageshwar and appointed Senior Superintendent of Police of Almora. Chandrashekhar R. Dhodke has been appointed SSP of Almora. Jitendra Kumar Mehra, SP Crime and Traffic of Haridwar, has been appointed SP of Bageshwar. Niharika Tomar has been appointed SP of Rudraprayag. Jitendra Chaudhary has been given the responsibility of Crime and Traffic in Udham Singh Nagar. Nisha Yadav has been appointed Superintendent of Police, Crime and Traffic, Haridwar.
Reshuffles have also been made within special units:
- Nivedita Kukreti has been appointed Inspector General of Police, SDRF, from the current position of Deputy Inspector General of Police, SDRF.
- Nivedita Kukreti has been appointed Inspector General of Police, SDRF. Prahlad Narayan Meena has been appointed Deputy Inspector General of Police, Vigilance.
- Yashwant Singh has been appointed Principal of PTC, Narendra Nagar.
- Pradeep Kumar Rai has been appointed Superintendent of Police, CBI, while Amit Srivastava has been appointed Commander, IRB 1.
- Devendra Pincha has been appointed Commander, 31st Battalion, PAC.
- Manoj Thakur has been appointed Additional Superintendent of Police, Kotdwar, and Chandra Mohan Singh has been appointed Superintendent of Police, Intelligence, Dehradun.
This extensive transfer list has been released at a time when the situation is changing. While the government is constantly talking about taking a tough stance on law and order in the state, the recent increase in criminal incidents in Dehradun has raised questions about the police system. Consequently, the leadership change in the capital as well as other sensitive districts is being considered a strategic move by the government.
This major administrative reshuffle in the police department clearly indicates that the state government does not want to compromise on law and order. In the coming times, the new officers will face significant challenges in controlling crime, managing traffic, and maintaining public trust.
It is worth noting that a day earlier, on February 12th, late in the evening, several IAS and PCS officers of Uttarakhand were transferred. Along with this, the responsibilities of secretariat service officers were also changed.
