Dehradun: Uttarakhand Police has achieved a major milestone in cybercrime prevention and management, ranking among the top five states in India based on its performance from January 1 to July 31, 2026. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami congratulated the entire Uttarakhand Police team on the achievement.
During a Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) review held on August 6, the performance of states and Union Territories was assessed on the basis of the effective implementation of various national initiatives related to cybercrime control. Key parameters included the State Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, e-zero FIRs, grievance redressal, recovery of money lost to cyber fraud, the coordination and cooperation portal, information sharing, cyber training, and public awareness.
Uttarakhand is strengthening its mechanisms for preventing and investigating cybercrime, providing technical assistance, and supporting victims through the establishment of a State Cyber Crime Coordination Centre. A Special Task Force is also conducting campaigns against cybercrime in coordination with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre.
Special arrangements have been made to secure and recover money in cyber fraud cases. Authorities are identifying suspicious bank accounts and taking steps to freeze them, while also pursuing legal action and monitoring areas considered vulnerable to cybercrime.
Along with training police officers and personnel, cyber-awareness campaigns are being conducted for students, young people, women, senior citizens, and the general public.
Director General of Police Deepam Seth said the achievement is the result of the state government’s guidance and the coordinated efforts of Uttarakhand Police, the Special Task Force, and other concerned units. He said the police aim not only to control cybercrime but also to provide immediate assistance to victims and create a safer digital environment for citizens.
Police have appealed to citizens never to share passwords, confidential banking information, personal identification numbers, or sensitive card details with anyone. Anyone who becomes a victim of cyber fraud should immediately contact 1930 or file a complaint through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
