Dehradun: The financially strained Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) is yet to receive more than ₹28.22 million (₹2.82 crore) for 554 buses deployed during official events attended by the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister. The pending payment is affecting employee salaries, retirement benefits, and the corporation’s day-to-day operations.
In a letter to the Dehradun District Magistrate, the Uttarakhand Roadways Employees Joint Council said that 299 buses were deployed for the “Jan-Jan Ki Sarkar, 4 Saal Bemisaal” programme held on March 7, 2026, for which ₹14.4 million (₹1.44 crore) remains unpaid. Another 255 buses were deployed during the Prime Minister’s visit to Uttarakhand on April 14, 2026, with an outstanding payment of ₹13.8 million (₹1.38 crore). The total pending amount stands at ₹28.22 million (₹2,82,20,891).
Regional President of the Employees’ Council Mukesh Naithani said the bills had already been submitted to the concerned departments and payment instructions had also been issued by the Chief Development Officer’s office. However, the funds have yet to be released. He said the delay has disrupted the timely payment of salaries, while retirement dues of former employees also remain pending.
The employees’ organisation added that delays in paying for diesel, spare parts, and other operational expenses are adversely affecting transport services.
Meanwhile, the Protocol Section of the Dehradun Collectorate had also written to the state government regarding the pending payment. However, citing the Uttarakhand State Guest Rules (Revised-2024), the Protocol Department stated that there is no provision for such payments and returned the proposal.
The Employees’ Joint Council has urged the District Magistrate to ensure the immediate release of the pending amount so that salary payments, retirement benefits, and the smooth functioning of the corporation can be restored.
