Dehradun: The Vigilance Department has intensified its investigation into the alleged Haridwar Municipal Corporation Land Scam by conducting raids at the premises of individuals named in the FIR. Teams are collecting documents and other evidence related to the case under the supervision of the Vigilance Headquarters in Dehradun.
According to officials, the investigation gained momentum following a report submitted by Investigating Officer Harshvardhini Suman. Based on the findings, departmental action was initiated against certain officials, while criminal cases were registered against several individuals.
As part of the investigation, a Vigilance team also conducted a search at the Delhi residence of an IAS officer. Investigators are examining land purchase records, official files, and other evidence from multiple locations linked to the accused. More significant developments are expected as the probe progresses.
Background of the Case
The case relates to the purchase of approximately 33 bighas of land in Sarai village by the Haridwar Municipal Corporation during the 2024 municipal elections for ₹53.70 crore. Allegations later emerged that the land’s actual market value was only around ₹15 crore, and that its land-use classification had been changed before the purchase, significantly increasing its value.
Following the allegations, the state government ordered an inquiry. An investigation conducted by Ranveer Singh Chauhan reportedly confirmed procedural irregularities, leading to action against several officials, including former District Magistrate Karmendra Kumar, former Municipal Commissioner Varun Chaudhary, and PCS officer Ajayveer Singh.
The inquiry also found that the land-use conversion under Section 143 was completed in just 14 days, and that serious irregularities existed in both revenue records and the purchase process. Vigilance officials are continuing to gather documentary evidence as the investigation enters what is being described as a crucial stage.
