Banbasa: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the Sainik Memorial and Flag Park at Banbasa on the India-Nepal international border. The Chief Minister paid floral tribute to the brave martyrs at the memorial. A giant national flag, the Tricolour, was also unfurled on the occasion.
The Chief Minister said the inauguration of the war memorial and giant Tricolour in the border area was a proud moment. The memorial would keep alive the memories of the courage, sacrifice and valour of soldiers who devoted everything to defending the country and would inspire the youth to serve the nation.
He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, border areas were being developed not as the last areas of the country but as the first areas. Referring to Uttarakhand’s military tradition, the Chief Minister said almost every family in the state had been associated in some way with the armed forces or paramilitary forces.
The Chief Minister said, “I am myself the son of a soldier, so being a part of this initiative associated with honouring soldiers is a matter of pride and emotion for me.” He reiterated the state government’s commitment to the honour and welfare of soldiers, Veer Naris, ex-servicemen and their families.
Veer Naris and Gallantry Medal Awardee Honoured
During the programme, the Chief Minister honoured nine Veer Naris, one Veer Mata and gallantry medal recipient Subedar Gopal Dutt Sharma by presenting them with shawls. SSB personnel sounded the bugle, and those present observed a two-minute silence in tribute to the brave martyrs.
Later, the Chief Minister interacted with Veer Naris and ex-servicemen and encouraged SSB personnel by posing for photographs with them. He said the contribution of soldiers to national security was paramount and that the government was continuously working for their honour and welfare.
Uttarakhand Preparing to Introduce Nikahnama, Draft Likely to Be Ready in Two to Three Months
Dehradun: Uttarakhand is preparing to introduce a Nikahnama as part of efforts to further streamline the marriage registration system under the Uniform Civil Code. The government is working on its draft and a committee has been constituted for the purpose.
Under the proposed system, provisions may be made to maintain records of the identities of the bride and groom, the date of marriage, witnesses and the Maulvi who solemnises the Nikah. The government is also considering linking the Nikah registration process with the Uniform Civil Code portal.
Proposal to Register Maulvis
The government is also considering developing a system for registering Maulvis who solemnise Nikahs. However, the final draft of the Nikahnama has not yet been prepared, and consultations are underway on the legal, administrative and other relevant aspects of the proposed system.
Minority Welfare Minister Khajan Das said a committee had been constituted to prepare the draft of the Nikahnama. He said detailed information would be shared only after consensus was reached on all aspects. The draft is expected to be prepared within the next two to three months.
The government said the proposed system aims to create an organised record of marriages and make the registration process more transparent. The final rules and their actual implementation will become clear only after the draft is prepared and the necessary approvals are obtained.
