Haridwar: The Kanwar Yatra has reached its peak in Haridwar, with over 50 lakh Kanwariyas having already collected holy Ganga water and begun their journey home. In view of the massive influx of devotees, the district administration and police have intensified security and crowd management measures.
On Sunday, District Magistrate Mayur Dixit and Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Singh Bhullar welcomed the pilgrims at Shankaracharya Chowk by showering flower petals on them. Devotees were also greeted with garlands, while juice, fruits, and refreshments were distributed.
DM Mayur Dixit said the Kanwar Mela belongs to everyone and that the police, administration, traders, and social organisations are working together to serve the pilgrims. He added that extensive arrangements have been made and are being continuously improved based on feedback.
SSP Navneet Singh Bhullar said that 6,000 police personnel, along with PAC, paramilitary forces, bomb disposal squads, and dog squads, have been deployed for the smooth and secure conduct of the pilgrimage. The fair area has been divided into 18 super zones, 40 zones, and 141 sectors, with additional arrangements made for the expected arrival of Dak Kanwariyas in the coming days.
