Dehradun. An eight-member relief team from the Gorkhali Sudhar Sabha departed for Nepal on Friday to assist families affected by the recent natural disaster. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi flagged off the squad, led by Padam Singh Thapa, Central President of the Gorkhali Sudhar Sabha, from the CM Camp Office.
The Chief Minister noted that Nepal is not only India’s neighbor but also shares deep social, cultural, and emotional ties. In this difficult hour of natural calamity, the people of Uttarakhand and India stand firmly with the affected families of Nepal, highlighting that helping those in need during a crisis is a human responsibility.
Padam Singh Thapa, President of the Gorkhali Sudhar Sabha, informed that besides helping the affected people, the relief team would adopt a village in Nepal to provide all possible assistance. The team will support the construction of a school building for children and provide books and educational materials to students. Relief operations are being conducted in coordination with the Government of Nepal and local non-governmental organizations.
Media In-charge of the Sabha, Prabha Shah, mentioned that a committee was formed after the disaster to appeal for relief assistance, and various branches and partner organizations of the Sabha contributed to the relief efforts.
Other prominent dignitaries present included Vice President of the Gorkha Welfare Council Abhishek Shahi, President of Shaheed Major Durga Mall Mandal Rajiv Gurung, Shamsher Thapa, Teku Thapa Magar, Shankar Thapa, Dammar Thapa, and Luv Tamang.
