Dehradun: Chief Secretary Anand Vardhan reviewed the Home Department at the Secretariat on Monday. The Chief Secretary has instructed the police department to take strict action against those who disrupt law and order in the state. He directed that important cases be continuously monitored at the district and police headquarters levels to ensure their speedy resolution.
The Chief Secretary emphasized the need to further strengthen the prosecution and forensic investigation systems in the state to ensure better progress and monitoring. He said that the e-summons system needs to be expanded.
The Chief Secretary said that complaints received on the helpline 1905 should be continuously monitored at the District Magistrate and SSP levels. He said that Thana and Tehsil Day events should also be started for the resolution of cases under the Home/Police Department. First, a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) needs to be prepared for this. He directed that the Home Secretary, Revenue Secretary, Divisional Commissioner, and the Police Department should collaborate to prepare this SOP. He suggested that 2 to 3 camps could be organized every month for the resolution of cases.
The Chief Secretary also emphasized the need to auction off and clear the seized vehicles accumulated at police stations. He said that possibilities should be explored regarding what more can be done for the disposal of vehicles related to pending cases in the courts.
The Chief Secretary directed that immediate and stringent action be ensured in POCSO cases. He also said that cybercrime is continuously spreading its tentacles, and concrete action and strengthening of the system are needed to curb it. He said that public awareness programs should be organized for this purpose.
The Chief Secretary stressed the need to further strengthen the One-Stop Centers. He also emphasized that continuous action should be taken against drugs, and the monthly meetings of the Narcotics Coordination Committee (NCORD) should be held within the stipulated time frame. The Chief Secretary directed that departments should immediately send the required reports and that investigations should be sent promptly by the departments for the resolution of cases.
The Chief Secretary said that the Manas National Narcotics Helpline platform should be publicized as widely as possible. He said that teachers and parents will have to play a crucial role in protecting children from drug addiction. He also emphasized the need for greater awareness campaigns in colleges and universities to educate people. The Chief Secretary said that it should be monitored whether de-addiction centers are following the treatment protocols. The possibility of reserving some beds for de-addiction treatment in large government hospitals can also be explored.
Present on the occasion were Director General of Police Deepam Seth, Principal Secretaries L. Fanai and R. Meenakshi Sundaram, and Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, along with other senior officers of the police department and all the District Magistrates from the districts.
