Dehradun: A workshop was held in the Secretariat auditorium under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan with educational and technical institutions, civil society, non-governmental organizations, and youth training organizations to discuss the effective implementation of the Drug-Free Uttarakhand – Drug-Free India Campaign.
The Chief Secretary clearly stated that the goal of drug de-addiction cannot be achieved solely through government efforts; active and collective participation of society, educational institutions, parents, and civil society is essential.
Institutions should not hide the truth, regular monitoring should be done
The Chief Secretary directed that no institution should conceal information about students struggling with drug addiction.
He said:
- Regular tracking of newly admitted students
- Special monitoring of students living in PG and hostels
- Identification of wrong associations should be done early
- Counseling and treatment should be provided if needed
He categorically stated that the future of students is more important than the image of the institution.
Emphasis on strengthening the information system
Any information related to drugs was requested to be reported on the toll-free number 1933.
In addition, information was also directed to the district administration, Special Task Force (STF), and SSP office.
Instead of punishing drug-addicted youth, priority was given to bringing them back to the mainstream through health services and counseling.
The role of parents is also important.
The Chief Secretary stated that:
- Parents should be involved in the campaign
- Institutions should establish regular communication
- Public awareness and counseling programs should be conducted
He warned that if any student is found engaging in drug abuse or illegal activities in a public place, the institution will be held accountable.
Coordination with the STF and District Administration
At the workshop, STF Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh informed the institutions about the process for effective action by coordinating with the STF and District Administration.
During this, Inspector General of Police Nilesh Anand Bharne, Special Secretary Nivedita Kukreti, District Magistrate Dehradun Savin Bansal, Senior Superintendent of Police Dehradun Pramod Doval and representatives of various institutions and organizations were present.
