Dehradun: An important decision has been taken regarding promotion from the State Civil Service to the Indian Administrative Service in Uttarakhand.
Under the promotion quota, PCS officer Bansilal Rana has been promoted to the IAS cadre, while senior officer Bhagwat Kishore has been given the benefit of promotion posthumously.
After the order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training, Bansilal Rana has now officially joined the IAS cadre.
Promotion Process Was Pending for a Long Time
In fact, the issue of promotion of PCS officers against the vacancies of 2022 in the state had been pending for a long time.
After a long wait, the Union Public Service Commission held a Departmental Promotion Committee meeting and cleared the way for promotions.
Promotions for Two Posts
In 2022, two posts were vacant in the Uttarakhand cadre for promotion from PCS to IAS.
The Uttarakhand government had sent the names of seven PCS officers to the UPSC for these posts.
After consideration, two officers were selected on the basis of seniority.
Posthumous Promotion Granted
Senior officer Bhagwat Kishore had already passed away, but since the vacancies were for the year 2022, his name was included in the process and he was granted the benefit of posthumous promotion.
The officer ranked second in the seniority list, Bansilal Rana, was also given promotion through the same process and has now joined the IAS cadre.
Current Posting of Rana
At present, Bansilal Rana is serving as Director in the Women Welfare and Child Development Department and has been performing administrative responsibilities for a long time.
More Opportunities May Open Ahead
According to information, two posts for 2023 and four posts for 2024 are still vacant.
To fill these posts, another Departmental Promotion Committee meeting will be held in the future, after which more PCS officers may get the opportunity to become IAS officers.
