Patna: Director General of Police (Operations and Special Branch) Kundan Krishnan on Monday emphasized that cybersecurity has evolved beyond a technological issue and is now directly linked to national security, economic stability, and public welfare.

He was addressing the inaugural session of a two-day Cyber Security Training Programme organised by the Cyber Crime and Security Unit (CCSU), Bihar, at Sardar Patel Bhawan, Patna.

Cyber Space Becoming Critical to National Infrastructure

Highlighting the rapid digital transformation, the DGP described the current era as an “age of uncertainty”, noting that multiple essential sectors now depend heavily on digital systems, including:

  • Banking and financial services
  • E-commerce platforms
  • Communication networks
  • Power supply systems
  • Transportation services
  • Government digital services

He warned that this increasing dependence has made cyberspace protection a major challenge for law enforcement agencies.

Urge for Continuous Skill Upgradation Among Officers

Kundan Krishnan urged participants of the training programme to take the sessions seriously and continuously upgrade their skills in line with:

  • Emerging cybercrime patterns
  • Advanced digital technologies
  • Modern cyber investigation methods
  • Evolving online threat landscapes

He stressed that proactive learning is essential to effectively combat increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.

Bihar Police Strengthening Cybercrime Response System

Additional Director General of Police Amrit Raj highlighted the institutional progress made by Bihar Police in strengthening cybercrime response mechanisms.

He said the state has established:

  • A dedicated Cyber Crime and Security Unit (CCSU) at the state headquarters
  • Cyber police stations in every district of Bihar

These steps, he noted, have significantly improved the state’s ability to handle cyber offences and digital fraud cases.

Expert Training by National-Level Cyber Specialists

The programme features expert sessions conducted by specialists from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA).

Training modules include:

  • Cybersecurity fundamentals
  • Digital forensics techniques
  • Emerging cybercrime trends
  • Online financial fraud investigation
  • Prevention of social media-related crimes

The initiative aims to enhance investigative capabilities and strengthen cyber preparedness among police personnel.

Focus on Strengthening Digital Law Enforcement

Officials said the programme is part of Bihar Police’s broader effort to enhance preparedness against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.

With rising dependence on digital systems across governance and public services, authorities stressed the need for continuous learning, coordination and technological adaptation to ensure effective cybercrime prevention and response.
