Dehradun: Following the incident in which a Bailey bridge was washed away at Tamaknala on the Jyotirmath-Malari motor road in Chamoli district, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is continuously monitoring the situation. The Chief Minister sought updates from the Chamoli District Magistrate and the Garhwal Divisional Commissioner and issued necessary directions to officials regarding relief and rescue operations, the supply of essential commodities and restoration of road connectivity.
The Chief Minister said that the supply of ration, food items, medicines and other essential commodities to the affected areas must not be disrupted under any circumstances. If necessary, essential supplies should be delivered to villagers through alternative routes and other available means. He also directed officials to immediately explore all possible options for restoring movement on the Jyotirmath-Malari motor road.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to reach the spot and assess the actual situation and extent of damage so that relief and restoration efforts are not delayed. In view of changing weather conditions and rising water levels, officials have been directed to maintain special vigilance in rivers, streams and low-lying areas. He made it clear that ensuring the safety of people remains the government’s highest priority.
Round-the-Clock Monitoring, Relief Machinery on Alert
The State Emergency Operations Centre is monitoring Chamoli and all other vulnerable areas across the state around the clock. Continuous coordination is being maintained with district administrations and concerned departments so that relief and rescue teams can be activated immediately whenever required.
The Bailey bridge at Tamaknala on the Jyotirmath-Malari motor road, constructed by 123 BRTF, Suraithota, was washed away due to a sudden and intense increase in water flow. There were also reports that one person and a camper vehicle were swept away in the strong current. Following the incident, teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were dispatched to the site. Teams from the local administration, police and concerned departments are also engaged in relief and rescue operations.
Government Focuses on Safety, Relief and Restoration of Connectivity
Following the Tamaknala incident, the government’s focus is on relief and rescue operations in the affected areas, uninterrupted supply of essential commodities and restoration of alternative connectivity. Chief Minister Dhami has directed officials to take prompt decisions and continuously assess the situation at the ground level.
The Chief Minister said the government is working with full preparedness to ensure the safety of every citizen under difficult circumstances and to restore normalcy in the affected areas as soon as possible.
