Dehradun: In view of the upcoming festive season, the Pushkar Singh Dhami government has intensified action against adulteration, hoarding, and irregular sale of food items. On the Chief Minister’s instructions, a special inspection campaign is being conducted across all districts of the state. District magistrates have been directed to conduct the campaign for one week, while divisional commissioners have been asked to monitor it.
Joint teams of the district administration and the Food Safety and Drug Administration inspected various commercial establishments on Monday. Food samples were collected, notices were issued to shopkeepers, and expired and spoiled food items were destroyed on the spot at several locations.
The campaign is examining not only the quality of food products but also sugar hoarding, packaging, labeling, expiry dates, and the commercial use of domestic LPG cylinders.
In Dehradun, 70 establishments were inspected on Monday and 48 food samples were collected. In Haridwar, 47 establishments were inspected and 27 samples were collected. Inspections and sampling were also carried out in Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Pauri, Nainital, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Almora, Bageshwar, and Champawat.
In Chamoli and Rudraprayag, expired food products were found and destroyed, while notices were issued to the concerned shopkeepers. In Nainital, around 10 kilograms of sweets that did not meet the required standards were destroyed.
The government has made it clear that monitoring of food quality and availability in the market will continue throughout the festive season. Action will be taken against those responsible for violations as per the applicable rules.
