Dehradun. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami flagged in four successful mountaineering expeditions conducted by the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), Uttarkashi, at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office on Thursday. Among these was the Mount Aconcagua expedition, conducted jointly with the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIM & WS), Pahalgam. The Chief Minister congratulated all the mountaineers on their successful achievements.
The Chief Minister remarked that the courage, discipline, technical proficiency, and team spirit shown by the mountaineers under challenging high-altitude conditions serve as an inspiration to the youth. Such achievements inspire young people to engage in adventure sports while strengthening Uttarakhand’s identity at national and international levels.
Conquering the 6,961-Meter Peak of Aconcagua
The joint expedition by NIM and JIM & WS was led by Colonel Hem Chandra Singh. The six-member team successfully scaled Mount Aconcagua (6,961 meters) in Argentina on February 22, 2026. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had previously flagged off this expedition from South Block, New Delhi.
Scaling Three Peaks in a Single Expedition
The NIM Nun-Kun Expedition 2026 was led by the institute’s principal, Colonel S.S. Rajpurohit. The team successfully scaled Mount Kun (7,077 meters) on August 15. Subsequently, they scaled Mount Delta-41 (5,908 meters) on August 26 and Mount Nun (7,135 meters) on August 31.
With this, the team achieved the remarkable feat of conquering three peaks in the Nun-Kun mountain range during a single expedition.
Immense Potential for Mountaineering and Adventure Tourism
The Chief Minister stated that Uttarakhand’s geography offers immense potential for mountaineering and adventure tourism. Alongside providing high-level training in mountaineering and adventure activities, the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering develops leadership, discipline, and crisis management capabilities among youth.
The event was attended by Special Principal Secretary for Sports and Youth Welfare Amit Kumar Sinha, NIM Principal Colonel S.S. Rajpurohit, JIM & WS Pahalgam Principal Colonel Hem Chandra Singh, Captain G. Santosh Kumar, along with other institute officials and expedition members.
