Haridwar: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has accused the Congress and opposition parties of misleading the public regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He stated that the opposition is attempting to create an atmosphere of fear among people by questioning the electoral process. The Chief Minister made these remarks while interacting with the media after a cabinet meeting.
Referring to statements made by Rahul Gandhi, Ashok Gehlot, Sachin Pilot, and K.C. Venugopal, Dhami said that opposition leaders are trying to spread confusion regarding the SIR. He questioned why the opposition did not raise questions about the electoral process back in 2018 and 2019, when an increase in the number of voters was similarly observed. In light of this, the opposition should clarify why the process was not questioned at that time.
Recalling the Congress regime, the Chief Minister said that changes in voter numbers between 2002 and 2007, and between 2007 and 2012, should also be taken into consideration. He alleged that the opposition questions the electoral process whenever it loses elections, but remains silent when it wins. Dhami asserted that the public will no longer fall for rumors and that the opposition should fulfill its role responsibly.
Citing examples of past elections in Uttarakhand, the Chief Minister noted that when the opposition won the District Panchayat President election in Dehradun, they did not question the election process, but raised objections wherever they lost. He termed this as the double standards of the opposition. Dhami said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is progressing rapidly, whereas the Congress continues to fail in responsibly executing its political role.
